The Eagles made the long trip to Walney Island and had to settle for a point when in fact they could of had all three…
The first half was an even contest with both sides battling but other than a few half chances it remained even at the interval. But on 55 minutes the home side whipped in a free kick and the unmarked Vickerstown forward made no mistake with a bullet header at the back post for 1 nil.
This seemed to spur the Eagles on and within minutes a loose ball fell to midfielder Nathan Derbyshire, who fired it into the bottom right hand corner for the equaliser. It was then a tense affair with both sides trying to win, but it was Eagley substitute Taylor Jones who had the best chance.
After a great through ball, he found himself one on one with the keeper to beat. He lobbed the ball neatly over his head only to see his effort bounce back off the crossbar and back into the thankful keeper’s arms.
The Eagley assistant manger Scott Derbyshire said ‘Afer making the trip up here we’ll settle for the point but it’s a shame as we could of won it! Young Taylor had a great chance to win it but the wind got hold of it and it wasn’t to be. We’ve got two away games left now and must play with the same amount of effort and commitment as we did today.’
