The 1st team travelled to Crooklands with bright sunshine appearing but a force ten wind ! and having to kick against it in the 1st half. Both teams huffed and puffed and Eagley missing some good chances still went in even at the break.
Then we came out brightly and a great pass found the feet of onrushing player/manager Simon Whaley. He made no mistake and the Eagles took the lead. They then should of gone 2 or 3 in front with Heath Ainscow, Andrew Lindley and Whaley again all missing chances, but after a Crooklands substitution and change of formation they got back into the game. A wrong footed Tom Macdonald then saw the ball bobble past in him into the back of the net for 1-1. Crooklands then upped their game but still Eagley had chances to finish it, but still failed to capitalise.
Then the sucker punch came and Crooklands breached the Eagley defence to take the lead, and win the game. In the last kick a Whaley cross into the box was crossing the line for the equaliser but somehow a crooklands defender just got a touch and cleared it. A very disappointed Eagley side came away with nothing from a big game, where missed chances cost them dearly.
Meanwhile it was a close affair at home with the reserves hosting Poulton. After a somewhat sloppy first half, Poulton were 3- 1 in front after some poor defending allowed them in. However caretaker manager Neil Pickup must of given them some inspiration as they came out fighting, and after some great play and determination further goals from Oli Clarke, Phil Eastwood, and then Craig Coote saw them back on level terms at 4 each with minutes left. Then after an injury, it left the Eagles down to 10 men where cruelly they were undone by Poulton in the dying seconds of the match, who won 5-4 and left with the points. Although losing, manager Pickup was impressed with the lad’s fighting spirit, and was full of praise in the way they fought back into the game.
