Eagley Get Ahead Of The Game!

News on 19 Jun , 2015
The Eagles are ‘hitting  the ground running’ and  return to pre season training tomorrow (Saturday) , in a bid to get the lads as fit as possible for the forthcoming season. Manager Simon Whaley,  and his assistant Scott Derbyshire know what a difference a good pre season makes and plan on making the most of the time available to them before the fixtures  come thick and fast.
We asked Simon about his thoughts,   ‘I want to try and make the lads as fit as possible and ready for the season ahead. I know how important a good pre season is to a footballer and if you miss it or pick up an injury it’s difficult to kick start again and get it back. It can leave you miles behind the other lads. We’ve got a great bunch of lads here and with a few additions I think we can do something and challenge in this league.’
We then caught up with Scott for a chat about his plans and  ahead of the season,  and what he expects from the lads this year.
‘ I love it down at Eagley, and enjoy coaching the lads with Si. I am planning a good, but tough pre season and  I want to make it as enjoyable for them as possible. I know it will be hard but it will pay off for them, and at 42 I reckon I can still give some of them a run for their money!!
Having been an apprentice at Wigan, and previously  played at Horwich RMI, Chorley, Mossley, Ramsbottom and Stonclough and then Castle Hill, Scott too knows all about the game and what he expects this season.
‘We are aiming for a top 5 finish, and after beating the top 3 teams why not? I want the lads to give everything and hopefully win a trophy too. We know we can do it, the lads just need to believe in themselves and play without fear, if they do that, and we add a bit more to the squad I think we’ll be fine.’
We then asked him about his partnership with Whaley ,  ‘Si’s a top lad and a great player, its just such a shame he couldn’t carry on because of his injury, and even now he struggles to play at all. But he seems to have dealt with that and he’s got on with it down here at Eagley. He respects the lads and they respect him.  We have a good bond and we’ve got our heads together to hopefully create something good here and I’m really looking forward to it this year.’
Updates will appear on the site regards pre season games and how the squad is progressing.
