The Eagles failed to beat Lostock in a tightly fought contest where only a fine lostock finish was the difference in the two sides…
Right from the start Eagley pressed and were playing the ball round with confidence after beating Blackpool the previous week. Whaley, playing up front turned on goal and struck it well, where it sadly shaved the post and went wide. Then from two following Eagley corners we should of scored but somehow again it brushed wide of the Lostock goal, with both teams huffing and puffing without any result and that’s how it stayed at the break.
The Eagles lost centre back Danny Swailes in the second half which definately unsettled the defence and forced Tom Macdonald into some great saves as we seemed to invite some unwanted pressure. But then on 80 minutes the inevitable happened and the ball was crossed into the Eagley box, the loose ball falling to Lostock’s Gavin Edmonds who hit it on the half volley curling with the outside of his boot into the top corner of the Eagley net for 1 nil. That’s how it ended leaving Eagley ruing their missed half chances and wondering how we got nothing out of the game.
