Relegation Confirmed

After weeks of speculation it was confirmed on Tuesday night’s West Lancs League meeting that the Eagles will drop down to the first division.  Initially it was suggested no teams would be relegated due another team’s resignation and Charnock’s Richards move up to the North West Counties league,  but the league meeting revealed that the team had rescinded their resignation and wished to remain in the league.

This meant The Eagles final poor results ultimately cost them and saw them drop towards the foot of the Premier League and into the relegation places.  They finished their games two weeks ago whilst other teams were still playing catch up on matches and still allowed to sign on players right up to end of the season. The other results then went against them which left the Eagles at the foot of the table and down into the second tier of the West Lancs League. They will now face next season in the first division  and must regroup and rebuild to plan on getting back into the Premier League.

We caught up with a clearly disappointed manager Simon Whaley and asked him about the previous season:

“The fact is we were not good enough over the season. We’ve played really well at times, beaten top teams and then thrown games away that we needed to win. We now need more effort and consistency this season and things must change. I need lads who want to win and commit to the club if we are to compete back in the Premier League. We’re going to work hard right from pre season, and then we’re going to work harder until we get it right! I want Eagley to be a top team, and hopefully we will be again. It’s not going to be easy, but with changes and a few additions we will build a new Eagley.”
