Simon Whaley has pledged his future to Eagley FC signing on for another season along with his assistant Scott Derbyshire, much to the delight of all associated with the club. Simon and Scott worked tirelessly whilst in charge since last October and performed what some called a ‘miracle’ to keep Eagley in the West Lancs Premier Division.
Whaley was asked about the past season and how he saw it..
‘This is my first management role and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. There’s a great bunch of lads at the club and they’ve worked their socks off for me and the cause. I said I just wanted them to keep us in the league this season and we’ll take it from there, well they did it (just about) and they were fantastic. The club, the fans, the chairman, and the committee, have all worked so hard to support us and hopefully we went some way to giving them something back. To beat Charnock Richard then Blackpool at home, showed just how far we had come, and then to go away on the last day of the season to beat Longridge at their place too, well that was just fantastic and showed what we are capable of. Local football is great round here now and with Turton coming up too there is some real exciting times ahead. With a few additions this year and some hard work, I want to make Eagley a team hard to beat again and challenge for some trophies.’
